In Search of an Orang Asli

Orang Aslis, the Malaysian ancestors are nowadays one of the important key figures tthose who bringing in the tourists from all over world to the deep rain forests ( Taman Negara ) of Malaysia. These people who were seperated from the rest of the population by means of modernization, are now starting to fill the gap by migrating into the greater cities, improving the education levels, and showing more interest in more advanced job markets-including ,but not only-in the fields like Medicine,Engineering, computing.
However several people decided to stay as usual-inside the forests looking for honey, roots, and kills with their world famous methods of hunting using the Blow Pipe and darts.Small animals are hunted using poisonous darts forcefully blowed out through the Blow pipe.

An Orang Asli man
Though, now it is very rare to see them in their native old dresses, few sightings can be made if we travel inside the rain forests of Cameron Highland ( Mountain ranges in Malaysia ) and Taman Negra ( Low land Rain forests of Malaysia ).
This pictures was taken while im travelling to cameron highlands. It was a dream came true for me to witness an Orang Asli in his native dresses. He happily posed for few shots and demonstrated how to use the Blow Pipe.It was such fantastic, that i couldn't stop buying a set for me,when i saw few darts and pipes for sale along the way.Still in perfect condition, and im still trying to beat my personal record of blowing out the dart to 15 meters far straight to the center of the target. An awsome yet ,Highly Lethal Killing Machine !

The Prize winner

An American guy currently living in Sri Lanka who is so much interested in photography wanted my help to learn few aspects of photography.Busy with studies,at that time i was a medical student and now a Doctor,i couldn't able to take him to a better location, however managed to arrange a small shoot in Dehiwela Zoo,the National Zoological Garden in SriLanka. The theme was "Animal Emotions".That day it was too sunny, and the animals were already fed and half asleep. Was a great failure with no doubts. However the last exhibit where these two old male lions were sleeping looked promising.A lion suddenly got up and went near the other, started to roar.I guessed ,okey thats gonna be a big fight !!!..quickly placed my eye on the viewfinder and the next 1 or 2 minutes are the prize winning moments. This photograph,
1) Is one of the finalist and exhibit in International Inter University Photography Competition -
    Dhaka ,Bangladesh
2) First Prize winner of Popular Photography Magazine October 2011 competition.

Back to Chinese New Year Days in Penang...

It was my second visit to Malaysia,in 2011 and a strong factor pushed me for it was none other than the Chinese New year.In Malaysia the festival being celebrated greatly in Penang - a beautiful Island town with a unique historic touch and multi ethnic and cultural background.Filled with lion dances, parades, decorations and countless tourists the town was so vibrant and that's the perfect moment to feed my camera.
Kek Lok Si temple an old Buddhist Pagoda/Monastery in a place called "Ayer Itam" is a key-feature in Chinese Festival.Every year it organizes "Festival of Lights" where around 10,000 lanterns are lit simultaneously throughout the temple premises. The insects attracted by the lights are less than the photographers who visit this place during this time.
